PAYD news in UK market
To summarise a little bit the situation today, you can find here some Insurer actors investing in the PAYD business on UK Market:
- In October 2006, Royal and Sun Alliance teamed up with broker Protectagroup to launch a new young driver policy branded I-kube. Following a successful pilot in Wales, the new ‘i-kube’ device is now being rolled out across the UK by Motaquote in partnership with RSA Insurance Group.
In Nov 2009, I-Kube is offering a curfew-based telematics motor insurance solution. The basic model is that you (a young driver) are charged for driving after 11pm. This model is a nice simple model and easy to implement without big IT infrastructure behind. This is really closed to Solly Azar model offering.
- insurethebox enters car insurance market : Per mile car cover for monitored new drivers to cut claims. A small ‘ClearBox' in the car monitors exactly when and where the car goes and how it is driven. The idea is that drivers with good driving behavior save money. The ClearBox is provided by Octo Telematics,
Logica working on pay-as-you-drive risk cover solution in India.
The UK-based IT services company Logica, which has set up the Spark Centres of Innovation at Bangalore and Chennai, is piloting a project with a private insurance firm across four cities and could soon roll out this insurance solution for Indian consumers.
Logica's Spark Centre of Innovation at Bangalore is also working on a real-time emission monitoring solution ‘EMO' that uses a plug-in device that connects to the onboard computer of the vehicle and transmits the emission values from the vehicle to the central office. Emission data from the EMO is used to offer differential fuel pricing to the vehicle driver, thus incentivising ‘green' driving behaviour.
A "truly radical" pay-as-you-drive scheme for Britain's motorways should be introduced to help the country switch to a low-carbon economy.
In the Green Gold book, the Commons Environmental Audit Committee puts forward a package of measures to accelerate the UK's move to a low-carbon economy.
This law will maybe accelerate the PAYD insurance to manage in better way the environment aspect of the driving behavior.
